“Cycling Infrastructure” from Surrey Council

At first I thought that this is “new” infrastructure from Surrey County Council.  Reviewing my video of last month I see that this is not the case and the cycle lane has been there for some time (unnoticed by me).  The fact that I have cycled this route several times and not noticed the cycle lane before tells me something.  Besides for this, it is clearly bolt-on after-thought infrastructure, lacking vision, it’s part of a piecemeal design, it links up to no other cycle path, it provides no benefit to cyclists, it provides an inconvenience as it forces cyclists to yield to the entrance to Robert Denholm House as well as when rejoining the road, and it will not be used by cyclists. In short it is a waste of money, except as some tick-box exercise.

Unusual Cyclists

A few of the many cyclists who I thought were more unusual than the others.

Cyclists down at London Critical Mass

I witnessed that two unfortunate incidents had occurred. I myself nearly slipped at one point on a metal structure affixed to the road (a manhole cover or the like). I hope that the cyclists are now fine.

Cyclists - why won’t they just share the road?

Yesterday evening this driver got himself into conflict with a large group of cyclists at the Critical Mass London, 20th Anniversary Ride.  I don’t think they should have taken it personally as he seemed the type of person who would expect any traffic to stop while he did a 10 point turn and then entered the carriageway.  Also, from the way the driver and the other lackeys were behaving, the passenger sitting on the back seat probably owns High Street Kensington.
