image

I love these colourful flowers growing in the birdbath, which is visible from my lounge window.

I haven’t posted for a couple of days due to late nights.  On Thursday a group of us from work went to the Jongleurs comedy club in Nottingham. (Photos may appear here in due course).  Last night I went for a cycle after work, and got home quite late, and a bit wet.  So far I don’t seem to have a cold, although the weather is a lot colder today.

Hail from the Chief

image

The Chief greets the fans at the end of his testimonial match on Monday.  I filled up a 1Gb card with photographs at the match, but will try not to post any more for a while.

No more news from me tonight - I’m off in a hurry to watch the final episode of The Apprentice over on BBC2.  As Londonist put it:

Tonight at 9pm, BBC2 are screening the final episode of the series, and the competition for the position of ‘Apprentice’ (complete with six figure salary) has come down to the final two.

One, Tim is a 26-year-old East-End boy who loves his mum and works as a Transport Manager for London Underground.

The other, Saira, is possibly the most loathsome human being to ever walk the earth.

(Yes, it’s been a tough process, but we think we’ve finally worked out who we want to win.)

Goal celebration

image

After her goal, team-mate (and hard man) Vinnie Jones wrestled Lucy Ward to the ground and jumped on her.  All in the nicest possible way, of course.

Here Tony Yeboah and Frazer Richardson come up to add their congratulations. Vinnie seems reluctant to let Lucy up off the ground.

G-g-g-goal

image

Leeds striker Lucy Ward beats the Chief, and puts the ball past Bruce Grobbelaar and into the back of the net. The crowd of 37,886 goes wild.  Shortly afterwards Ward set up Matthew Kilgallon for another goal.  Leeds still lost 7-3 to the visitors, but it was a great atmosphere with loads of singing and a Mexican wave.

From the match yesterday: Leeds striker Lucy Ward takes on The Chief and is on the cusp of scoring her goal against the visiting International World XI.

Lucas Ntuba Radebe

image

Both the people in this photograph have the same name: Lucas Radebe.

The Lucas on the left was born on 13 February 1999 in Leeds. He is a pupil at Leeds Grammar School, his favourite player is Lucas Radebe, and his hobbies are watching Sponge Bob, trampolining and swimming. The Lucas on the right was born on 12 April 1969 in Zone 4 of the Diepkloof Township, Soweto. (According to some sources he was born on 4 December 1969). Over the past 10 years he must surely have become South Africa’s most successful football player of all time. I took the photo during his lap of honour at the end of his testimonial match, to mark his tenth and final year as a player for Leeds.

Don’t be

image

This is the chappie who made all the noise at 7 am this morning. Where’s a hungry old fox when you need one?

We are now in the last week of the election campaign and, in case you are confused, Simon Jenkins of the Times newspaper advises:

How to vote in (the) general election is easy. If you want a Labour government, vote Liberal Democrat. If you want a Conservative government, vote Labour. If you want a Liberal Democrat government, vote Tory. Recite that every morning for a week.

I suspect that he is double-bluffing, and recommend that we all do the opposite. We just have to work out what that is.

Knight

image

This sculpture is found outside The Ferrers Centre, Staunton Harold, where Kate and I went for lunch yesterday. The tearoom/restaurant there is well located as it close enough to get to, eat a lunch, and get back to work from, in one hour. The place was crowded and the tables in the courtyard were all occupied.

Monday is a public holiday here in the UK, so I am looking forward to two more days of weekend. On Monday I am going (with Bluemeanie, and two cousins-Faragher) to see the Lucas Radebe testimonial match in Leeds. The special guest star will be Doc Khumalo (now retired).  The charities Lucas is supporting in his testimonial year are listed here.
