Ashby sunset

This photograph is part of a time study. See here, but also my Flickr set here. The photos are taken one month apart at sunset, and are taken from almost the same spot.

Contemplating impermanence can be a liberating experience, one that brings both sobriety and joy. In essence, we become less attached. We realise we can’t really have anything. We have money and then it’s gone; we have sadness and then it’s gone. No matter how we want to cling to our loved ones, by nature every relationship is a meeting and a parting. This doesn’t mean we have less love. It means we have less fixation, less pain. It means we have more freedom and appreciation, because we can relax into the ebb and flow of life.

This is an oil-seed rape (canola) field outside Ashby-de-la-Zouch at dusk a couple of days ago. The light was amazing, but I need to get the polarizing filter that Mart recommended.

Spotted on the Ashby-de-la-Zouch bypass yesterday evening, a poster put up by the Fathers for Justice stunt group.

Some of what this group have done is worthy. Some of it seems a bit misguided.

Found in Ashby

I found the following list in Ashby-de-la-Zouch today. If I can read it correctly, it says:

  • cobs
  • coffee crEm
  • KEnco NormAl
  • BuBBle BAth
  • JAcKEt potatoEs
  • LAZ
  • MilK (cream)

The spelling and capitalisation is interesting. A cob is some kind of bread, while kenco is a brand of coffee. I wonder what LAZ is.

According to Londonist the British Museum yesterday found:

A 10in by 6in ‘rock painting, entitled Early Man Goes to Market and depicting a man pushing a supermarket trolley.

Love him or hate him? I love him

How many faces?

This photo reminds me of those drawings where you are asked to count the number of faces you can see.  A few years I was sent one, with a score card along these lines:

  • 0 to 2 faces: below average
  • 3 to 5 faces: average
  • 6 to 8 faces: above average
  • 9 to 11 faces: you have excellent powers of observation
  • 12 and above: you are delusional

In the above photograph I can see 11 different faces, but I have the advantage of having composed and taken the photograph myself.

lost in Prague

I found this poster last May in Prague.

I was reviewing my site stats this evening, and found that so far this month I have received 14 hits from a search engine from people looking for information and photos from the Lucas Radebe testimonial match.  This compares favourably with the most popular single search term which brings people to my site (“bigblue” or some variant thereof, which resulted in 20 hits so far this month).

When I notice a trend like this I like to see which search engine is largely responsible.  According to Thumbshots it is most likely to be Google and then Msn.  On the former site I am listed 12th when searching for “lucas radebe testimonial photo” while on the latter I am listed 32nd and 33rd for the same search.
