graffiti tags on the M25

Graffiti tags

I have posted before about graffiti tags:

Some of the most common styles of graffiti have their own names. A “tag” is the most basic writing of an artist’s name in either spray paint or marker. “Tagging” is often the example given when opponents of graffiti refer to vandalism, as the artistic form is lacking and style of penmanship is highlighted more.

The example above comes from Iver Heath near Junction 16 of the M25.  I sometimes drive through Iver Heath and notice that its roadsigns suffer from a plague of graffiti tags. The author/s of these are now reaching out to a wider audience.

Languid day

Beachy Head

So it’s confirmed: April 2007 was the hottest on record.

The average temperature was 10.2C (50.4F), beating the previous April high of 9.2C (48.6F), recorded in 1943.

Rainfall in the driest region, East Anglia, was only 5% of the expected amount, and even in the wettest parts of Scotland it was down 30%.

BBC forecaster Tomasz Schafernaker said it had been an “absolutely incredible” month across the whole of the UK.

The mean temperature of 10.2C was 3.3C higher than the long-term average of 6.9C (44.4F) recorded throughout the period of 1971 to 2000.

Mr Schafernaker said figures so much above the average were “almost unheard of”.

And the band plays on ...

Subzero loading

I blogged last year about parking problems in Oxted:

and our new friendly parking wardens.  I had the opportunity of meeting one of these friendly chappies on Saturday when I came out of a shop to find him about to write me a ticket for parking illegally. He looked more sour than sweet, but he didn’t give me a ticket. Either he really was friendly, or he didn’t get a chance because I jumped into my car and drove off. I guess I’ll never know for sure.

Still the picture above (taken today) shows how plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose. The big guys still have a free rein - even to block traffic in the high street. You know I would take my bicycle to the town centre, except there is a deficit of secure lockup points.

Schoolboy Humour

Upper Dicker

A dicker is a bargain according to WordNet Search.  It is also someone’s surname and a town in East Sussex.  Sorry, I don’t know the joke/s…
