The Source of Punk

image

I found this music shop, Search Music tucked away in a corner of Chertsey high street. It’s down the alley, behind that door on the left of the photo.

Everytime I have been there the shop has been closed. Perhaps it closes every lunch time.  Perhaps it closes when the weather is sunny outside. Looking through the glass door I see piles of old style vinyl albums and some DVDs inside.

Punk Sticker

image

When I found this I couldn’t imagine how a German football club sticker with an anti-racist message could turn up in Chertsey, Surrey. FC St Pauli is a Hamburg based football club with something of a “cult following” (according to Wikipedia).

Apparently the sticker is from an album by the punk artist Sascha Konietzko. What next, Kaizer Chiefs?

Badger

image

I spotted this sticker on the high street, Sevenoaks, but there is no indication what (or who) Badger is. My guess is that it is a fashion label, rather than the actor, an urban legend or even the real thing.

The Rider

image

From the top of Leith Hill Tower I took this photograph. The area is also popular with mountain bikers, runners and ramblers.

Graffiti tags on Leith Hill Tower

image

I get a lot of visitors to this site looking for Graffiti Tags and mostly ending up on my post Graffiti Tag (athough I have others).  Always on the lookout for more examples of graffiti (good and bad) I came across the following while recently ascending Leith Hill Tower.

You will see that I have added Twitter to the sidebar. I’ve been playing around with it since last year. I wasn’t sure about adding my “tweets” here since already more than half of my posts to this blog are submitted remotely from my mobile phone, and these include photographs. I’m not sure what twitter adds, but we’ll see.

Lawn flowers

image

This isn’t my lawn, but I have been toying for some time about introducing wildflowers to my lawn.

Despite all the new trends for decking and patios, for many gardeners the traditional lawn is a must. The lawn provides the perfect foil for colorful planting as well as providing access to the garden. Managed organically this green carpet can become a haven for wildlife, contributing richly to the biological diversity of the garden.

It is possible to have two types of lawn one a formal striped weed free carpet the other a more relaxed green sward containing a greater diversity of plants. If your manicured lawn has become too much like hard work, then why not turn some of it into an organic wildflower meadow.

Organic lawns can be exciting habitats full of variety, and with great value to insects.

When you compare a meadow to a clean cut lawn you can see that one is teeming with life, birds, bees and insects while the mown lawn is bereft of any obvious activity.

Nettles!

image

Continuing to notice the flora around me during this season, I spotted this field of nettles near my workplace in Surrey. Yummy! If I didn’t have fears about pollution, I would have picked some for my supper, soup perhaps.

Late Spring flowers

image

I’m appreciating the late blooming spring flowers, seen here in a garden in Sevenoaks, Kent. These are mostly tulips.
