Road Widening in Progress

image

On of the many concerns about the Oxted Quarry is that the increased traffic load of lorries dumping waste at the site will require the access roads to be upgraded at a cost to the Council.

It seems we needn’t have worried - I notice that the lorries are widening the roads all by themselves.

Isn’t that handy?

The Woldingham Viewpoint Vandals

They have destroyed the information board and left litter.

Things you won’t see from your car - Part 2

image

In this case it’s the horse’s hoofprint in the middle of the road.

Happy Solstice everyone - our ancient and universal human celebration. Today is the shortest day and tonight is the longest night for those of us in the Northern hemisphere. It is the day that marks the beginning of the return of the sun, bringing us all hope and lifting our spirits.

Looking up and down

Looking up

Looking down

As I reach the top of (what I thought what I thought at the time was going to be) the steepest climb of today’s cycle ride I “hit a wall” and dismounted for a minute or two. The mud in the middle of the road in Winter hampers things because it leaves a narrow track to avoid the slippery mud/horse manure that intersects the left and right of the road. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

I didn’t see the herd of deer from yesterday. The only fauna I noticed were crows, pheasant, highly pregnant sheep, blanketed horses, and the Christmas bunny.

Woldingham Viewpoint in Winter

image

It’s not a bad day for a cycle actually: cold and dry with muddy tracks.

I hit a brick wall climbing the North Down to get here. At least my heart rate monitor has come back to life. Yesterday I thought the battery had died.

Things you won’t see from your car - Part 1

A herd of 12 deer grazing on the Oxted Down. I’m out for my daily winter holiday cycle and feeling the cold.

Bedspread or flag?

image

In the summer I assumed the people in this Godstone house were hanging their duvet out to air every day. Now it’s winter I suspect this is some kind of national flag.
