The Oxford Belles on World Aids Day

The Oxford Belles

This is the programme from the Oxford Belles’ - World Aids Day Concert of last year. It looks like I have been quiet for the past few days, but this is because I am having some problems with my host. This means there are a backlog of posts which are not appearing because a script is failing.

In the meantime I have also posted two videos from the above concert of last year: Video 1 and Video 2. My apologies for the poor quality of both - I filmed them using my mobile phone.

Green Water

While in Chertsey yesterday I also noticed this restaurant. I’ve never been inclined to eat something that comes out of green water but I might be prepared to make an exception in this case.

There was quite a bit of rain earlier this week so I was interested yesterday to see that there had been some flooding in Chertsey.

Fortunately the river has only flooded into this channel/concourse. Unfortunately someone from Surrey County Council planted a tree in it. Then again I’m sure the tree will live.

Chertsey frog-lover dies?

The sudden appearance of this set of frog ornaments in one of the high street charity shops leeds me to suspect we should be mourning the passing of a local frog fan. Of course they might not love the live creatures (as I do) but only this bizarre ornamental mantlepiece clutter.

Cruel fashion

There’s something quite revolving about this much dead animal. The sign reads:

Designed by the renowned Italian designer Gattinoni and created by Nando Melchiorri this unique wedding dress is made of the world’s finest mink, fox and rabbit fur and adorned with thousands of Swarovski crystals.

I spotted this at Copenhagen Airport last week.

In the local news while I was there was that Bush’s “popular” American ambassador to DenmarkJames P Cain (political appointee) had returned to Washington as his term ended with the start of the Obama regime. What I also read (but hadn’t really been aware of) was that Denmark has been part of the occupation force in Iraq, despite the bulk of public opinion being against this. Cain’s parting comments to Denmark were warm. He said he had made many friends and intended to return often. He even would explore business interests in Denmark. However he was also (typically) forthright in constructively criticising some aspects of Danish life, in particular her attitude to foreigners (blog post by An American in Denmark).

Back to passing time

Here we are with another one of these student art projects, inspired perhaps by Sam Taylor-Wood.

Swedish Countryside

The view from the train near Lund.

Some students boarded the train at Lund and we were treated to a sing-song all the way to Malmo.

Bridge Over Misty Water

On the train going between Copenhagen and Malmo but there’s not much to see outside.
