Operating Theatre

We did not have any accidents or require any medical treatment in Malta. The thought didn’t even occur to me until we spotted this entrance to an operating theatre in Rabat, Malta.

Waste and recycling in Malta

These bins, spotted in Valletta, Malta all have EU stickers on them so presumably date from post-accession (2004) and are an example of tax pounds/Euros well spent.  I found an interesting presentation on waste management in the Maltese islands which looks at the historical situation as well as the current challenges.

Maltese fruit

I have no idea what this fruit is, or even if it is edible. We found this growing near the medieval city walls in Mdina, Malta.

La Boutique della Frutta e Verdura

I have decided that in the coming days I will post some more photos from my travels last year.  This photo of the fruit and vegetable van is from Verdura in Sicily.  Unfortunately I didn’t get anything else in the picture to show what a cute little van this is. Unless you are used to measuring things in the size of bananas…

I know it’s late but

I have only drunk half the glass of beer and I’m seeing musical instruments on the ceiling?

Oxted in snow

A familiar scene of Master Park, blanketted at the moment in snow.

Not for me (as I mainly work from home) but perhaps for the Tandridge Council workers who collect our waste.

I have seen progress in the communications from the Council: before Christmas they were announcing after the fact, via email & web, that there had been no waste collections. This week they are starting to tell us in advance.

Due to the icy road conditions, there will be no rubbish and recycling
collections today Friday 8 January.

We are updating our website all the time (, so please
check for the latest information.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will make collections as soon
as we safely can.

Please share this information with friends and neighbours.

(From an email received at 8:44 this morning - as you can see I am being generous in my interpretation of the phrase “in advance” since theoretically our waste has to be outside from 6 am).

Incidentally there is no need for me to advise my neighbours. My street is never gritted by the Council and we simply leave our waste outside if it snows as per the above photo. When the snow melts the Council will be along again to collect it(eventually).
