A cyclist in Barcelona

image

These photos were taken from quite a height. I like the way the marking on the cycle lane indicates which direction you should be cycling in, but isn’t this person going in the wrong lane?

Marden Park

image

Marden Park is the largest site owned by the Woodland Trust in Surrey:

This expanse of varying woodland habitats - a bit of a draw for visitors - is actually made up of Marden Park and Great Church Wood.

This is an area of great diversity from ancient woodland to large expanses of developing woods and stretches of recreated chalk grassland where plants such as common, bee and greater butterfly orchids thrive.

As a result this is a rich haven of wildlife with no fewer than 25 species of butterfly, rare snails and stripe-winged grasshoppers.

The photographs above are taken “facing each other” from different sides of the Marden Park valley.

On 6 November 1929 a Luft Hansa Junker airplane crashed in the woods here en route from Croydon Airport to Schipol Airport (Amsterdam). Seven people died in the crash and there was only one survivor.

Barcelona sunset - a short time-lapse

In this attempt I learnt that in future I should set the camera manually. The camera was set to “autofocus” and I set it up in my hotel room to take photographs at 5 minute intervals.  However the changing point of focus for some of the shots means that Torre Agbal does not appear as static during the time-lapse video. Also when the lights on the tower went out the camera stopped taking photographs since it couldn’t focus the shot. The video therefore terminated prematurely. The time between the individual photographs is 5 minutes, and they are played back in 0.5 second intervals.

Sudden Spring

image

Is it just me or did the Spring blooming this year occur “all at once”?  In the bottom right of the photograph you can just make out some bluebells, which have now arrived in the forests on the North Downs. This photograph is taken above Oxted on Gangers Hill.

It’s all downhill from here

image

Phew for that! It must have been the warmest day of the year so far. Photo: Oxted from the Woldingham viewpoint, taken a few minutes ago.

Barcelona traffic

image

Various shots taken last week. The city of Barcelona is what I would describe as “car friendly” although there seems to be decent public transport, including a tram network, and widespread use of scooters, motorbikes, and even bicycles (some of which are part of the free/cheap public cycling scheme).
