Dangerous Overtaking on Titsey Road

Well there are some good examples of safe overtaking in this video too, but a couple of the overtakes here are poor (and dangerous).  What happened to leaving at least two seconds between your vehicle and the vehicle in front? Why do drivers these days feel an urge to keep up with the car in front of them?

Crosby, Stills & Nash - Winchester Cathedral

image

Last night at the Royal Albert Hall we were treated to several hours of the trio and their supporting band.

They started up the song Winchester Cathedral with the Royal Albert Hall organ, which was quite a treat.

They played a mixture of old and new songs, and had updated their anti-war songs with references to Barack Obama. Nice touch…

My donkey fell in your waffle hole

This is a quote from the film Shrek 4.  I think the sticker has a connection with these people. See more here.

Cycling is interesting in York

You see some interesting people and behaviour, some of which I highlight in the video.

Filtering through traffic in York

The pavements seem to hold the most people, yet are designed for the fewest. Hence the “overflow” of pedestrians into the road, and the need to be careful, because pedestrians don’t seem to be as concious of bicycles as they are of motor vehicles.

Riverside cycling in York

This is a lovely stretch of riverside walk/ride, but unfortunately there is too much potential for conflict between cyclists and pedestrians. Probably both groups need to have their wits about them, and cyclists need to go slowly.

One of the things I don’t like about the Sustrans cycle routes (this riverside section is part of Route 65) is that they disappoint by not being proper dedicated cycle paths. The approach is often to slap some paint (bicycle icons) on the tarmac, or to put up some signage.

Ricall Water Tower

image

Situated on the River Ouse (and A19 road) between York and Selby, Riccall has an interesting history going back to its origins as an Anglo-Saxon town.

The water tower is 80 feet tall, and is the second in my series of photos of water towers. The first was at Le Coudray-Saint-Germer.

Dead squirrel stuffed with beer

image

One of the beers (second from the left above) sold at Pivní in York and for me it’s a bit strange and disturbing.
