Kachelofen

image

This is an example of what I think is a Kachelofen which I saw on Monday night in Winzerhaus in Zurich.

A yellow duck

image

I think it’s a good omen to find one of these in the bath.

The Rhine River

image

This was taken at sunset earlier.  Here the river forms the border between Switzerland and Germany.

Update:
The smoke rising on the right bank of the river is from a power plant in the municipality of Full Reuenthal, in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland. On the left bank is the village of Dogern which is part of the administrative district of Freiburg in Germany.

A break in the storms

image

And here’s my home town of Oxted, as seen from the North Downs near Woldingham.

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Precious Blood

image

Also known as Westminster Cathedral this is the mother church of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. It is dedicated to the eucharist (the precious blood of the transubstantiation).

One of the rear lights of a hire bicycle is flashing in the foreground.  That would be the one I just returned. My first experience of these bicycles was not very positive: the bicycles themselves are cumbersome and slow. I also had a driver in a small old sports car undertake me and try to squeeze me out of his way.  Of course it was futile, as we were 20 metres from a traffic light. However when I complained he jumped out his car and threatened to hit me. He also complained that I was cycling in the middle of the lane (on a three lane road). Of course the traffic was heavy and when the lights changed to green I left him queuing while I pedalled on to my destination.

It’s middle of the road point-makers like him who make cyclists so angry about car drivers

Spring around the corner

image

There are signs that, possibly after another cold spell, spring will return to these parts.

An Oxted Sunset

image

I took this photograph just before sunset, and just after a hailshower, this afternoon.

Talk To Strangers

image
This is exciting. I was fortunate to see the talented Fiona Bevan perform live last year. Her upcoming album can be pre-ordered here.
