Critical Mass London

image

This is at the party outside Buckingham Palace. I saw the dude with the Tibetan flag crash into five different cyclists during the course of the evening, and at one stage he nearly knocked me over. At least he was carrying the equivalent of a large warning sign.

Constantine

image
Here’s a different view of the statue of Constantine which can be found outside the York Minster, near the place where he was declared Emperor of Rome in 306 CE. I wonder how many other residents of York have declared themselves Emperor over the centuries since.

Yellow flowers

image
I took this photograph a couple of days ago, when it was still summer. The city walls of York are in the background. I am having difficulty identifying the flower on the UK wildflower finder website.

A York Cat

image

There are more than twenty cat statues on buildings in the city of York but the origin of the tradition is not clear. It is speculated that they could be good-luck symbols, the mark of a particular architect (which was then copied by others), or they could have originally designed to keep pigeons away. There is a website listing them here. The cat in my photograph appears to be a new addition (it is not in the directory, and on Google Streetview you can see that it was introduced by the current occupants, Goji Vegetarian Cafe and Restaurant.

The most haunted pub in Great Britain

image

It seems this is an actual quote, but not actually from the Sunday Telegraph.
