Cycling in Munich

They have these cycle paths on the pavement, which is divided into walking and cycling sections. Pedestrians need to be aware of where they are walking. Tourists with their wheeled suitcases seem to pose the biggest risk to cyclists here, while locals know what they are doing and respect the setup. I have only seen ordinary people cycling in ordinary clothing.
Yesterday I received a mail about cycling to work which mentioned the need for showers at work. I remember thinking that was a bit strange: people in countries where there are high levels of cycling don’t need showers at work. They have segregated cycleways so they can cycle at a “normal” pace in everyday clothes. In the UK we force people onto roads with motorised traffic where they are forced to ride faster and more aggressively. Is the focus on showers a false or diversionary objective, or one that only caters for the sporting cyclist/jogger/etc?

On a ledge in our B&B in Antwerp. I presume they were ‘salvaged’ from an old church.

The Music Beats The Hangover

Found on the window of a bar in Antwerp, I’m not sure what this means. However in my case it’s generally not true.

Rolling on the river

This evening my colleague and I did the sunset dinner cruise, with a live jazz band, on a paddle boat. I noticed that the traditional paddles were not steam powered, and the chimneys were decorative. The inside area of the boat was air-conditioned which also made it a bit too cold for my liking. We went about five miles downstream, then turned around and cruised back up the river towards New Orleans which was lit up by this glorious sunset. Once the sun had set a light breeze came down the river, which was a welcome relief. The band played on the top deck for the entire cruise and people danced, some with babies in their arms. A hen party consisting of five women who all looked too young to be getting married (in my judgement) were particularly lively.
