Descent into Triel sur Seine

Features to note: Long descent to Triel is fun, but take care!

~ from our Guide notes for the Paris cycle ride.  As you can see I followed the advice well, both enjoying the ride and descending with care.

I intend to write up a proper review of our summer’s cycle ride to Paris, but in the meantime am posting this vignette from the third day as we cycled into Triel sur Seine.

This was the day of our longest ride, 96 km (60 miles) which we completed in just over 6 hours at an average speed of 15.7 km/h. My top speed was 50.9 km/h which I assume was during the descent shown here.  Over the course of the day we climbed hills with a total elevation of 952 metres but also descended a total of 986 metres.  The longest single climb of the day was of 229 metres.  Fortunately this was not the hottest day of the tour (that had been the day before).  At the end of the day we arrived in Villennes sur Seine, on the outskirts of Paris, with just 58.5 km to complete our journey the following day.

A roadside mausoleum

image

I was not sure, but assumed this was a family grave plot with a mausoleum. It was situated some way out of the town and also some way from the cemetary. Although it is outside the town, it is still on the Grande Rue, in the commune of Lalandelle in the department of Oise in France.
