Rolling on the river

image

This evening my colleague and I did the sunset dinner cruise, with a live jazz band, on a paddle boat. I noticed that the traditional paddles were not steam powered, and the chimneys were decorative. The inside area of the boat was air-conditioned which also made it a bit too cold for my liking. We went about five miles downstream, then turned around and cruised back up the river towards New Orleans which was lit up by this glorious sunset. Once the sun had set a light breeze came down the river, which was a welcome relief. The band played on the top deck for the entire cruise and people danced, some with babies in their arms. A hen party consisting of five women who all looked too young to be getting married (in my judgement) were particularly lively.

The Mighty Mississippi River

image

Yes, it’s a very impressive river in terms of size. This is where the river passes through New Orleans.

Purely aweful

image

This is possibly the worst-tasting bottled water I have ever drunk. I see that they add ingredients to the water.

The Water Tower

image

Not in use anymore (as a water tower) I found this in Atlanta, Georgia, last week.

I admired this graffiti at Krog Street bridge, where Banksy and others have left their mark.

American Irony Part 2

image

Martin Luther King Junior seems to have appreciated Churchill’s ironic use of the “victory” sign as seen in this photograph of him and his supporters emulating the British bulldog.

This is the mausoleum in Atlanta of Martin Luther King Junior and Corretta Scott King.

Freedom is a State of Mind

image

The statement itself has a level of ambiguity but the graffiti series appears to be a comment on domestic violence.
