A York Cat

There are more than twenty cat statues on buildings in the city of York but the origin of the tradition is not clear. It is speculated that they could be good-luck symbols, the mark of a particular architect (which was then copied by others), or they could have originally designed to keep pigeons away. There is a website listing them here. The cat in my photograph appears to be a new addition (it is not in the directory, and on Google Streetview you can see that it was introduced by the current occupants, Goji Vegetarian Cafe and Restaurant.
