American irony

It is sometimes suggested that American irony is some kind of oxymoron.  This photograph suggests otherwise. The words on the building are from Martin Luther King’s I Have A Dream speech:

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

On the other hand the images of the three people suggest that one can judge character by appearance - in this case by draping oneself with the American flag. I have no doubt that some fine people and some scoundrels alike, drape themselves literally or figuratively in the American flag.
