Bright eyes

It’s been a busy week, so I haven’t posted for a while. Here’s another self-portrait of Pinkie’s eyes.

Since my last post, we have had the US Presidential elections.  The result over there has resulted in the country being referred to by some people as The DSA (Divided States of America). At the parents evening on the night after the result, the politics teacher at bluemeanie’s school made the observation that both major candidates were remarkably close on the big economic and political issues, but it is a feature of their politics that Americans polarise on relatively minor issues, internally, and that they carry this over into the international arena in the way they deal with foreign powers. Bush’s oft-quoted statement (to the world) “You’re with us or you are against us” can therefore be seen as an example of a broader trend, rather than an exception.

Still, no doubt commentators and comedians will be kept busy for another four years.  Deborah Orr wrote in today’s Independent that:

The Sopranos is an exemplarary study in how even the most appalling people can be viewed by themselves and others and moral. Even in this time of despair, it’s of some tiny comfort to remember that the US remains uniquely adept at delivering such compelling and subtle narratives to the rest of the world.

Last night I slept over at Liz and Rob’s place, and dropped off a present for them to take to Flank’s clan in Sydney. Today I spent the morning in Sevenoaks and the afternoon in Southwark, London.  I was mainly taking photos, with Martin’s digital EOS (Canon) camera. I like. I want to get one.
