Chichele Road

Chichele Road

This is where Chichele Road intersects with Bluehouse Lane and Station Road East in Oxted. Chichele is the road going straight up ahead. It is pronounced Chicheley, simply being a spelling variation of the same name.  You can see this here in the entry on Henry Chichele. 

When I first encountered this road, in 1997, I thought it was pronounced like the name Michelle.  So it always reminds me of that most boring of Beatles songs of the same name.

As you can see in this photo the Surrey County Council are in the process of putting an “upside-down saucer” in the road at this point.  They are also putting a series of humps in Bluehouse Lane, leading down to Oxted School.
