Courchevel

image

This is my recent view, across the Tarentaise Valley of Courchevel, the first ski resort in France to be constructed from scratch rather than based around an existing village (according to Wikipedia).

I recall such a view when crossing the Alps in an aeroplane—it must be pretty high up.

Yes, according to my piste map I was at almost 2700m altitude when I took this photo.  The village where we slept was at 1250m, and the resort of Courchavel (in the photo) is at 1850m.
