Cycle lanes in Paris

image

image

On my trip to Paris this week I took note of these cycle lanes.

As you can see, the city authorities have narrowed the road, taking space to expand the pavement and put in dedicated cycle lanes. The pedestrian area is clearly demarcated from the cycling area. The second photo shows that cyclists and pedestrians even have their own separate crossings.

Recently in Berlin I was impressed by the provision of proper lanes for safe cycling. Paris (in some suburbs at least) also seems to be “streets ahead” of the UK.
