Gangers Hill and Council Dues

The Tandridge District Council website tells us exactly when our streets are swept and refuse is collected. In the case of Gangers Hill we are given the following dates for street sweeping:

Gangers Hill is swept every twenty six weeks.
Street cleaning is due to take place in the weeks beginning -
28-April-2008
26-October-2008
15-April-2009
20-October-2009

As this is a road that I cycle up several times a week I take an interest in this matter, and at the end of October 2008 and in mid April 2009 I looked for some indication that this street had been swept by the council. The road is covered with horse manure, stones, soil and other debris.

This is what the street looked like shortly after it was “swept” by the council in October

and this is what the street looked like shortly after it was “swept” by the council in April

I’m not a specialist in road maintenance but I would suggest that the only thing that has swept this road in the last 12 months has been the wind, rain and snow. The council is still due to sweep this street. Now if my council dues had not been met for the past 12 months I would be in trouble…

I have written previously about Gangers Hill here, and here, and here.

The District Council actually responded to this blog post on Twitter, on 28 May 2009, here and in a direct message to me said they

Realised this info was very out of date and removed it - we are working on it - website is judged as good, but we know it’s not perfect!

.

This from a body that had previously claimed:

Tandridge has one of the top 20 council websites in the country http://tinyurl.com/dxz7j9

.

Anyway, one month after saying that the misleading information on the website had been replaced, it still reads as follows:

Gangers Hill is swept every twenty six weeks.
Street cleaning is due to take place in the weeks beginning -
28-April-2008
26-October-2008
15-April-2009
20-October-2009

which is exactly what it said before (and is incorrect!). What they actually removed was the news item on their website which celebrated them being named one of the top 20 council websites in the country. Go figure.

hmmm
