Lammingtons Tea Room

A Lammington is a traditional little Australian sponge cake. The place in this photograph is the tearoom Lammingtons, which can be found in Bletchingley, Surrey.  It is also a small giftshop.

It’s a good and friendly little place for tea, lunch, etc. but is not open for dinner. I recommend arriving early, since they don’t take bookings and can get full. There is seating outside, but it’s not pleasant at this time of the year.  The last time we were there we shared one of the large tables with another party, which also worked out fine.

According to Surrey Life magazine:

Dame Judi Dench’s daughter, the actress Finty Williams, claims that Lamington’s ... is the only place for coffee and cakes.

This sounds just like the pretentious crap that Surrey Life magazine would write, and don’t let that put you off.  Lammingtons opened in 2008 and there’s quite a good review of the opening on the Surrey Today newspaper site. I discovered it only a couple of years later.
