le pissenlit

dandelion

It’s not a good idea to leave a place for 2 weeks, accidentally leaving 2 weeks’ worth of dirty washing behind in your laundry bag. It makes you feel very frustrated, and it can leave you pondering how you will get through the next fortnight.

Anyway, today I went shopping and bought 6 pairs of socks, 6 pairs of underpants and some shirts.

I took the above photograph in Oxted during a brief snatch of sunshine.  I find the French word for dandilion, pissenlit, appropriate because the plant is a well-known diuretic. Now, the killer plants, thousand eyes and the WSSA suggest that this is the actual origin of the name.  Moreover it seems that the Normans also had another name for it, dent-de-lion and it was from this that we corrupted the current English word.
