On The Road Again

This is Paul Smith, who cycled this year from Xiamen in China (where he has been working for a few years) to Forest Row in England. He did this trip to raise money for Parkinsons research. Here he is giving a talk on his journey, at Forest Row on Friday night. Actually, as it turns out he had several reasons for doing this cycling trip, one of which was related to a sense of adventure he had developed as a child. You can read his very interesting blog, here. The talk was a 45 minute summary of the highlights (and some lowlights), told in a highly entertaining and amusing fashion.

Before the talk we watched some shorts on cycling, covering this year’s Olympics, Tour De France and some “urban stunt cycling”. I don’t know what the correct term for this type of riding is, but it could be parkour cycling.

Following the talk we had the main film Life Cycles, which is described thus:

Five years in the making and shot in super HD, this multi-award winning film redefines the bike movie. Why do people become so passionate about mountain biking? As the film says: “this isn’t a bike movie, it’s a film about a bike – big difference!”
