The Biddenden Twins

I’ve written about these conjoined twins before, here and here. I passed through the town on Sunday and thought I’d take the opportunity to update my previous photo and also show some of the words on the village sign.

I’m surprised to read that the one twin’s refusal to be separated from her dead sister is described in a way that suggests this inevitably led to her own death, because in the 12th Century, the era prior to antibiotics (and an understanding of infection, nevermind proper anaesthesia), such an operation would surely have resulted in her death anyway.

I’ve written previously about the village of Biddenden, here.
