Happy Day 5!
At 2am this morning I taped Bets on Larry King Live: Jack Paar Remembered. I watched a few hours ago, and it was so good! It was a wonderful, sensitive tribute to the late Jack Paar, who died age 85 on Tuesday. Betty, although already quite famous, was made into a mega-star by Jack Paar, who interviewed the likes of John Kennedy. As ever, Betty was sweet, and warm, and simply lovely!
Quote for today:
::enter Rose, Dorothy, Blanche and Sophia - Rose is singing::
“Three bottles of beer on the wall…three bottles of beer…you take one down and pass it around…two bottles of beer on the wall…well, I’m off to bed!“
Dorothy: (exploding) TWO BOTTLES OF BEER??? You get all the way to two bottles of beer and quit?!?!
Rose: (smiling) Just drives you crazy, doesn’t it Dorothy?

Happy Day 4!
As ever, here’s a Betty quote for today. This is not (as is usual) taken from a Golden Girls episode, but from a fairly recent appearance on Hollywood Squares:
Tom Bergone: What animal is also known as a polecat or woodpussy?
Betty: [blank stare] Tom? Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?!
And that was at 81! Just goes to show—age doesn’t matter!

It’s day 3 of the Betty White week here. I hope you’ve all been thinking wonderful Betty thoughts the past few days!
Here’s our Betty quote for today. Betty says it has left her with a “cupcake memory”!:
Dorothy is trying to explain to Rose that Miles (Rose’s boyfriend) kissed her. She decides to use cupcakes as an example:
Dorothy: Look, Rose: say you make miles a batch of your cupcakes. And he loves these cupcakes more than life itself…
Rose: Miles does have a sweet tooth!
Dorothy: ...but then say someone else makes him cupcakes…say me for example….and he wants to try mine.
Rose: Oh dorothy, dont be silly NO ONE likes your cupcakes, their saggy and tasteless.
Dorothy: Rose, my cupcakes are moist and delicious. Men love my cupcakes.
Rose: Get a clue, Dorothy! Men would rather buy cupcakes than have yours!
Dorothy: Wait a sec…you think im really talking about cupcakes dont you?!
Rose: Yes! Hold on a minute…have you and miles been BAKING TOGETHER?!
LOL!!
It was Estelle Getty, ‘Sophia’ on The Golden Girls, who said:
“Betty White is Miss America!“

Happy Betty White Week, everyone!
Betty just turned 82 on Jan. 17th, and is still going strong. In 2003 she appeared in Bringing Down The House as this great racist b*tch! LOL, she was brilliant.
Here are some simple Rose quotes for today:
Sophia: I found my lucky handkerchief.
Rose: Where was it?
Sophia: It was in my bra.
Rose: What was it doing in your bra?
Sophia: It was blowing my breasts, Rose!
Betty White is always very defensive of Rose Nylund; whenever someone says Rose was “dumb”, Betty always goes: “She’s not dumb! She was terminally naive!“
Sophia: I need some advice, Rose.
Rose: And you are asking me?
Sophia: Frightening isn’t it?

According to Which Classic Movie Are You?, I am:
Today we’re going to Bluewater so I can get a coat, some sweaters and exchange a book.
I was meant to tape ‘Blonde: The Marilyn Monroe Story’ last night, but we watched Fawlty Towers, so I have to tape it today. Only problem is that we’re going to be out. I’ll go check the times. It’s like a film of her life, and it’s supposed to be quite good.
The Golden Girls Corner
I forgot to tape The Golden Girls this morning, so it’s 4.30am for me tomorrow!
Here’s a classic Sophia:
Rose: A penny for your thoughts, Sophia.
Sophia: You’re an idiot and that one’s on the house!
See you tomorrow for our Betty White Week!

Doesn’t it really annoy you when they get English actors to play foreign people (i.e. Hungarians) in BBC documenteries, and they’re going on in their English accents: “Blah blah blah BudapeSHt blah blah blah SHtalin blah blah Ssecret Police.“ I mean, come on, lets have some consistancy!
I did that ‘What Famous Leader Are You’ test that Mark mentioned a while back, and I got Gandhi:
The Golden Girls Corner
The Betty White theme will start as of Monday, but for the meanwhile, here’s a little quote that just sums up Dorothy and Rose’s relationship:
Blanche: Dorothy, what kind of man would you have 2nd time around?
Dorothy: Somebody to grow old with….
Rose: You can do that by youself
Dorothy: I’m aware of that Rose!
Poor Rose; such a cute, child-like little thing! They do say ignorance is bliss!

Hi and Happy New Year! And a very special Happy Birthday to Ruth, who’s 13 today (as I’m sure you’ve gathered from Mark’s blog).
At the moment, I’m busy with running my campaign for the UK Youth Parliament, to which I will (hopefully!) be elected to the Surrey part. Voting takes place during the week of the 9th of Feb., and we’ll find out the results during the following week. On Jan. 31st I’ll be handing out pamphlets in front of Boots in the High Street, and the week of the 2nd I’m doing a week of assemblies in school.
The above image is where I stand on The Political Compass. I’m in between Gandhi and Nelson Mandela! I really recommend you take the test; it’s really good! The whole concept is that you can’t judge on just the line of Left or Right, but certain people are left authoritarian (such as Stalin) or right authoritarian (e.g. Hitler), whereas others are left libertarian (me!) or right libertarian (Friedman). The opposite to Hitler, therefore, is not Stalin, but me, or Nelson Mandela.
Today, the East Surrey MP, Peter Ainsworth, spoke to a group of us at school; it was very interesting. I’ve never encountered right-wing people before, lol (other than extremists), so it was enlightening, in some respects. He seems like a very normal person, and in many of his views, a lot like you or me, which was interesting. There were quite a few reporters there, so I’ll let you know when it appears in the paper. I’ll be appearing in the upcoming week, too (on something very different, but also political), so that should be good!
Anyway, enough of all that. Here’s our favourite feature:
The Golden Girls Corner!
I feel like a bit of an all-of-the-girls quote today, but as of next week, I’ve decided to do themes, and next week is the delegated Betty White Week (seeing as she just turned 82!), so tune in!
Rose: Dorothy, you’re the smart one, and Blanche, you’re the sexy one, and Sophia: you’re the old one . . . and I’m the nice one. Everybody always likes me!
I think that just about sums them up, don’t you?

This past weekend (as I’m sure you know from reading Mark’s blog) we went to EuroDisney, and it was absolutely great! We had such a good time and it was so much fun: We went on all the major roller-coasters, plus other rides, and saw three parades. Dyl and I went into the Disney studios, and saw the cinema parade there, and also went on the Aerosmith roller-coaster, which was so amazing it’s not even funny!
At the moment, Dyl’s on his way to the airport to go back to S.A. I couldn’t go with to drop him as I have a Youth Forum meeting at 6.30pm. However, we’ll be seeing him in 5 days when we go to S.A.!

After Sophia’s “words of wisdom”:
Blanche: Oh, forgive me! I thought that since you look like Yoda, you are also wise!

I’ve been listening to my ‘Marilyn Monroe: The Legend Lives On’ CDs so much over the past few days! I really love them; at first I wasn’t so drawn to her voice, but I really like it now: it’s just so—Marilyn!
Anyway, I had my first Tandridge Youth Forum meeting today, and it went really well. I’ve been elected secretary, which is so cool, ‘cause that’s what I want to be when I’m big! We meet again next Monday, when we’ll bring some recruits (there’s only 6 of us at the moment) from 6.30pm until 8pm, then have our own mini-meeting from 8.00-8.30pm, where we’ll discuss the recruits, and the next meeting.
I have my maths mock GCSE tomorrow, which I am simply dreading, so wish me luck!
The Golden Girls Corner
I hadn’t been on @ccess The Golden Girls UK forums for yonks, but I went on this weekend, and I really enjoy being back!
There were four great episodes shown on LivingTV this past weekend…which I haven’t had time to watch yet! But I will in the next few days (I need to—to keep me sane!)

Sorry for the long silence, and I’m afraid this will be very short, too.
Firstly, big Happy Birthday!s to Frances and Lauren, both 15 today.
Secondly, AIDS campaign excellent - will be in assembly for the rest of the week with ribbons.
And last, but not least, CABARET WAS GREAT! I feel so privaleged to have been part of such a lovely cast and such a wonderful and professional production. We had an after party to celebrate after the last show on Saturday night, which was just great; I got in at 2am. But more about Cabaret and the party tomorrow…
Love y’all! Kiss kiss! Have a pineapple!*
*for those of you who didn’t see the show - ignore that, lol!

Ken Livingston, mayor of London, recently refered to an American leader as “the most dangerous man on earth”. I heard a story yesterday about this dangerous, poor sod of a man. The details may not be accurate, as I’m having to remember way back yesterday:
When George Dubya Bush began his Asian tour, he travelled first to Japan. He was giving his speech, addressing the country, and he gave his reason for visiting Japan first. Apparently: “for a century and a half, the Japanese and Americans have lived as peaceful allies.“
Never mind Hiroshima then…sad b*stard.

Sorry for the long absence; I’ve been VERY busy with rehersals and coursework for the past week. Just to warn you in advance, I’m probably not going to write much next week, either - we’re perfroming Tuesday to Saturday. I’m absolutely knackered - have had rehersals every night this week except for tonight: Sunday from 10am-4pm, Monday till 6, Tuesday till 6, Wednesday till 8.30 and yesterday till 8.30. I’m at choir from 7-8pm tonight, so who knows when I’ll catch up with my coursework?! Tomorrow we’re supposed to be going to someone for lunch, then I’ve been invited to 3 parties in the evening. One’s quite dodgy, though, as it’s in a field in the middle of nowhere, so I guess that leaves 2 to choose from! May not go to either, though; turning up a dress rehearsal with bags under my eyes and a hangover is not such a good idea! (not that I would drink of course, lol!)
On top of coursework, I need to write my speech (and learn it) for the inter-school debate on Wednesday after school. We’re going to be slaughtered anyway, as we’re playing the champions. Oh well, we’ll try at least! On Friday we have a day off school (yet we’re still performing in the evening), so I’ll write about it then, as Wednesday will be far too hectic what with arriving home after the debate and then going to perform an hour later!
The Golden Girls Corner
Can it be that I’m too tired to write about my girls? Uuuuuuuuuuuuummm…Yes.
Ever wanted to know why you’re here? Ask Sophia:
“We were all put on this planet for a purpose. Blanche, you’re here to work in a museum, so that art can be appreciated by humanity. Dorothy, you’re here as a substitute teacher to educate our youth. And Rose…you’re here because the rhythm method was really popular in the 20s!“

I’ve been quiet for the past few days. Mainly been rehersing, but also doing coursework (busy on Drama as we speak!). You could tell at school today who was doing Cabaret, as they all came in with huge bags under their eyes and really pale face! Rosie was the only person who looked decent, lol, I don’t know how she did it. I had to pinch my cheeks like they do in Gone With The Wind to give myself a bit of colour!
Anyway, I’m so tired that I’ll just give over to the girls:
The Golden Girls Corner
Here’s some Blanche ideology:
(Rose slams the door after a date with Miles)
Blanche: Oh hi Rose.
Rose: Hi Blanche.
Blanche: What’s wrong?
Rose: Oh it’s Miles. Lately he’s been kind of, well, tight and I hate it.
Blanche: Well I’m just the opposite, I love a tight man. Tight man with cast iron pecs….Thighs that could choke a bear…..Butt you could eat breakfast off of…Then the two of us would…(She looks at Rose) Well Rose! When’d you get in?!
Rose: Blanche, I’ve been here the whole time! I was telling you about Miles being tight!
Blanche: Oh I LOVE A TIGHT MAN! Tight man with cast iron pecs, and thighs—
Rose: No, tight with money! He’s cheap!
Blanche: Tight with money? DUMP him!

“My name’s Blanche Deveraux. That’s French, for Blanche Deveraux”
Hey y’all, I just finished watching the episodes of The Golden Girls that I managed to tape at 04:30 this morning, so I’m in a very happy mood.
LOL, in the episode where Blanche’s sister Virginia comes to visit, asking Blanche for a kidney, at the beginning Blanche is having a rant about how much she hates Virginia, and Rose says she finds it hard to believe anyone can hate their sister…
Rose: Maybe it’s a Southern thing.
Blanche: Nah…sleepin’ with yah bruh-thers is Suthun!!
I noticed while watching that in these early episodes, Blanche’s character is very much based on Scarlett O’Hara (of ‘Gone With The Wind’). In the episode where Dorothy’s dating a doctor who makes a pass at Blanche, she even said: You, sir, are no gentleman! and then there’s her being oh so self centred (in a lovable Scarlett type way), and when she’s mad at Rose, she says something along the lines of “Now Dah’thy’s not talkin to me, and I’m not talkin’ to yooou!...you can bring me mah coffee now” and soon after “You were the one who got me in this mess!...you can bring the cream”
Don’t worry, Blanche huhney, we love Scarlett, and we love yooou!!

You guys can at least make an effort with The Einstein Quiz. Dylan did it today, and he got the same answer as me, so I’m not going to post his answer. I was quite lucky I guess, as I managed to get the answer very quickly as you get to a point where you have to pick one of two ways to fill in the houses (I suggest you all draw little boxes as houses to fill in the info, as it really helps), and I guessed right. Dylan, however, met a dead end several times, so it confirmed for us that there must only be one possible answer.
Dyl also made the point that when Einstein said that only 98% of people will get it, but that was in Einstein’s world, and today, people think differently and think more laterally.
Please do try out the Einstein Quiz, and post your answers here. As I said I will give a week and then post mine (and Dylan’s).
The Golden Girls Corner
I am such an idiot, and I forgot to tape The Golden Girls this morning! In my defense, I was getting up to go to a Church service that started at 09:30 and then off to full day rehersals. Anyhow, I’m going to check the TV schedule, but I guess I’ll be getting up at 04:30 tomorrow morning to tape the episodes I missed!
Some quotes to cheer me (and you!) up. Bit of a Blanche theme today:
Rose: You know what I think?
Blanche: No, do you?
Blanche: I never had to pay a penny in backtaxes. I have a way with auditors. The last time I was audited I even got money back from the government.
Sophia: Blanche, it’s not a refund when the auditor leaves two twenties on your nightstand.
Blanche: Dorothy, when I’m feeling low self-esteem, I do a little exercise. I say my name and then three positive things about myself. I’m Blanche Devereaux. I’m beautiful, men find me desirable, and people want to be my friend. Dorothy, now you try it.
Dorothy: Ah, I don’t want to.
Blanche: Come on. Pleeease?!
Dorothy: Okay: I’m Dorothy Zbornak, I’m beautiful, men find me desirable and people want to be my friend.
Blanche: Oh no, I think I confused you there! I meant three things that apply to you. Like, I’m Dorothy Zbornak, I’m a good speller, and uh… I’m very prompt, and umm… Well, there’s no law that says there have to be three good things!
Blanche [to Rose]: What? Are you out of what is left of your mind?!
Dorothy: You’re just jealous because I have a date on Saturday night and you don’t.
Blanche: Saturday night? Kid stuff. Get lucky on a Tuesday morning, then call me.
[Blanche wants to keep the car they have payable-at-sight]
Blanche: I’ll give you anything! I’ll give you one of my sons!
Dorothy: Blanche!
Blanche: Dorothy, I’ve given this a lot of thought: I’ve had three sons, I’ve never had a Mercedes. Which one do you want? Biff, Doug, Skippy? No, don’t take Skippy, he’s got asthma.
