Gamelan instruments
Here are some Gamelan instruments from an event I attended on Saturday with Pinkie. I was telling her this is part of her heritage, as some of her ancestors come from Indonesia.
The last blog entry (posted from my mobile phone) didn’t work so well as the subject was corrupted. I’ll sort it out on Wednesday when I’m home. Hopefully I won’t have the same problem with this one.

I can’t access that book - apparently I have the wrong “country profile”. According to her grandmother their ancestors came from Java.

Indonesia is a pretty large conglomerate.
Her ancestors could have originated from Batavia (Jakarta) which is located on the western end of Java (see: http://www.questia.com/PM.qst?a=o&d=94987011 for a brief history of exile from Batavia).
Another possibility is they came from the island of Amboyna in the Moluccas.
Other options are Goa (India), Sumatra, and Malacca. Smaller groups were exiled from these Dutch colonies.
