Next entry: More about parking

There is no shortage of schemes in this world that will convert your cash savings into a smaller amount. What is unusual about this one is that it has popped up in our local supermarkets and (at a fee) promises to do precisely that. Yes ladies and gentlemen, this very machine will convert your cash into, er, well, cash!
Full marks for effort to whoever came up with this scheme, and with a hat tip to Finkangel where I saw this first.

How much do they charge to convert your coins into cash? I assume it’s turning metal money into paper, perhaps to stop their customers from buying things using coins?
They charge about 5% and give vouchers to deduct from the supermarket shopping bill.
I have a big vase of coppers at home - I’m tempted to take it to the supermarket till to pay for my groceries and see if they refer me to the “commission machine”.
now that would be worth filming!
Annie Mole was at Interesting 08 and it seems that it’s not legal tender to pay for anything over 20p using 2p or 1p coins. (In other words the shop can refuse to accept the payment). I had better do something about my vase of coins before the word gets around ...
I despise these machines - they had them in Winchester and Measham supermarkets and show how feckless we are getting. grrr
